All experience levels welcome! Take a basic knowledge of futures and options from theory to practice to confidently incorporate them into your operation’s risk management. This recently updated seminar is designed for those who want a greater degree of control over long-term risk exposure and profitability. We explore making strategic position adjustments to maximize pricing flexibility for input costs; as well as coverage ideas to address forward contracting with less “risk” but also opportunity to provide more competitive pricing. In addition, we’ll introduce more advanced strategies that are beneficial in tight margin environments.

  • Learn the basics of commodity price management incorporating the futures market as a price discovery tool and the composition of risk exposures.

  • Expand your understanding of the futures price curve to manage basis risk exposure as well as other applications to take advantage of favorable spread opportunities.

  • Understand basic strategies incorporating futures and options to manage specific risk profiles such as cost-plus and other structured pricing arrangements.

  • Discover the impacts of time and volatility on option premium and when it may be advantageous to leverage these features in more advanced strategies.
